Preparing for Your Surgery

PRIOR TO YOUR SURGERY

General Instructions

• If you are receiving general anesthesia or sedation, please arrange to have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours following surgery.

• Bring your insurance cards and photo ID.

• Remember to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Eating Instructions

• If your surgery is scheduled before noon: no solids or liquids after midnight. However, you may have a sip of water with medications.

• If your surgery is scheduled after noon: no solids after midnight. However, you may drink clear liquids up to 3 hours before arrival time. Clear liquids include water, apple juice and clear soda, black coffee or hot tea without milk added.

• Infants may consume breast milk up to 4 hours before surgery.

• Infant formula may be consumed up to 6 hours before surgery.

Medication Instructions

• Discontinue the use of all herbal products two weeks prior to your surgery.

• Call you physician regarding instructions for insulin or anticoagulants.
